Scrawl for iPhone · Last updated 30 October 2026

In short: Scrawl does not collect any personal data. Your lists, and the photos you scan them from, never leave your iPhone through Scrawl.

Who we are

Scrawl is published by Digital Avenue AB, Sweden. You can reach us at support@digitalavenue.se.

What the app does not do

Camera and photos

When you scan a list, Scrawl uses the camera through Apple's document scanner. When you pick a photo, iOS shows its own photo picker and gives Scrawl only the photo you choose; Scrawl can't see the rest of your library.

The text on the photo is read on your iPhone with Apple's on-device text recognition. The photo is used only for that and is not saved.

Apple Intelligence

On iPhones that have Apple Intelligence, Scrawl can sort your list with Apple's on-device language model. That also happens on your iPhone. You can turn it off under Store & sorting in the app.

What is stored on your device

To remember your lists, Scrawl saves on your own iPhone:

This information never leaves your device through Scrawl, and we cannot see it. If you use iCloud Backup or back up to a computer, iOS may include it in your device backup. That backup is handled by Apple or by you, under Apple's privacy policy, not by us.

Sharing a list

If you tap Share on a list, Scrawl hands its text to the iOS share sheet, and it goes only where you choose to send it.

Deleting your data

Swipe a list to delete it. It stays in Recently deleted for 30 days and is then removed, or you can delete it there straight away. Learned sections and spellings can be removed one by one under Store & sorting. Deleting the app removes everything Scrawl has stored.

Children

Scrawl is suitable for all ages. Because the app collects no data from anyone, it collects no data from children either.

Contacting us

Send feedback in the app opens Mail with a message to us that includes the Scrawl version, the iOS version and your iPhone model, and, if you send it from a scanned list, the text the camera read. You can read and change the message before you send it; nothing is sent unless you send it yourself.

If you email us, we use your address and message only to answer you, and we delete them when they are no longer needed. You have the right under the GDPR to ask what we hold about you, and to have it corrected or deleted. You can also complain to the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY).

Changes

If a future version of Scrawl handles data differently, for example an optional online text recognition, we will update this policy before that version is released and change the date at the top.
